Katrina Kaif, it seems, will finally be seen in the much hyped item number that Karan Johar had planned with the actress in mind for his upcoming biggie Agneepath. The item dance in question is being hyped as a highlight number in the Hrithik Roshan- starrer. In the song, Katrina will be seen shaking a leg with Sanjay Dutt who plays the arch villain Kancha Cheena in the film.
The news about Karan approaching Katrina for the item number started doing the rounds a few weeks ago. However, no sooner did the buzz gain ground, insiders in Katrina’s camp quashed all such reports.
Industry insiders suggest that Katrina’ s reluctance to do the item dance in Agneepath had to do with her close friend Salman Khan. Salman was reportedly not very pleased with Sanjay Dutt getting close to his arch rival Shah Rukh Khan lately. In fact, Sanjay’s recent proximity to SRK has surprised all.
In turn, Katrina, who owes a lot to Salman professionally, reportedly chose to stay away from Agneepath. “Salman, who has always been very close to Sanjay, was miffed when the latter agreed to do a villain’s role in Agneepath, produced by SRK’s closest buddy Karan, but refused to do a guest appearance role as his father in Bodyguard. In fact, a frustrated Salman actually asked the makers of Bodyguard to totally do away with the father’s role in the film when Sanjay turned it down because he couldn’t think of any other actor for the act,” a source said.
Things further worsened when SRK gifted Sanjay an expensive bike for doing a cameo in his ambitious biggie, Ra. One. However, now that Sanjay has come out and publicly declared that his ties with Salman were too deep to be damaged over such trivial reasons that Salman is his family all that seems to be a thing of the past.
An emotional Salman is reportedly back to being friends with Sanjay, with whom he will incidentally play the co- host in this season’s Bigg Boss. This, in turn, clears the way for Katrina to do an item number in a film produced by Karan’s banner, perceived all along to be pro- SRK. While Katrina is yet to sign on the dotted line, sources said it is only a matter of time now.
“Sheila ki jawani in last year’s Tees Maar Khan and her item dance in Bodyguard have made Katrina a sought- after star for item numbers. Agneepath is a huge production and Karan feels only she could do justice to the number,” a source said.
The song in question is composed by rising music director duo Ajay- Atul who composed the songs of the Ajay Devgn- blockbuster Singham. The Karan Johar- produced Agneepath is a remake of the 1990 film of the same name that his dad, the late Yash Johar, had produced with Amitabh Bachchan in the central role.
Hrithik reprises Big B’s National Award- winning role of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan while Priyanka Chopra is cast as the heroine. Sanjay Dutt will essay the villain Kancha Cheena, which was played by Danny in the original. Karan has insisted that his film is not a blind rehash of the original Agneepath but reinterprets the story with a new- age twist.
Katrina’s item dance, if it materialises, would be a sexy new- age twist indeed.
Putting to rest all rumours about their alleged tiff because of Salman Khan’s upcoming film Bodyguard, actresses Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were seen quite elated in each other’s company at the grand finale show of the Lakme Fashion Week.
It was reported that Kareena was miffed with Katrina for hogging all the limelight in her film Bodguard by doing an item number in it. But the two actresses looked quite compatible and friendly at Sunday night’s event, where Kareena was the showstopper for designer Manish Malhotra and Katrina was a guest.
The comfort level between the two stars became evident when Katrina stepped on the ramp at the end of the show to shake a leg with Kareena and Manish. Even after the show, the two were spotted holding hands and enjoying each other’s company.
When asked Kareena whether she considers Katrina her friend, the 30-year-old replied: “Of course she is my friend. Why is it this question even being asked?” Guess there are no permanent friends or enemies in Bollywood!

MUMBAI: Katrina Kaif wants to go the Kareena Kapoor way, other enticing offers be damned! Bebo is working with the Khan triumvirate (Salman in Bodyguard, Shah Rukh in Ra.One and Aamir in Reema Kagti’s untitled next) this year.
Not one to be outdone, Kat has an untitled project with Shah Rukh, Ek Tha Tiger with Salman and has now all but signed Dhoom 3 with Aamir.
Despite reports of the banner approaching Holly actresses like Natalie Portman, Eva Longoria and Penelope Cruz, insiders confirm that Kat has been signed for the role. Given her promixity to producer Aditya Chopra, it is hardly surprising that she has wormed her way into the project.
An insider says, “To accommodate a film with Aamir, she let go of the chance to work with her ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor in Ayan Mukerji’s next.” Even though she showed interest in Ayan’s film, behind the scenes she was trying hard to adjust dates for Dhoom 3. She has been waiting for a chance to work with Aamir and even tried her luck for Reema Kagti’s untitled film but Kareena swooped in and grabbed that role.
It is learnt that Kat has requested to get Shah Rukh to adjust his dates for their Yash Chopra directed film together, so she could accommodate the latest film in the Dhoom franchise. “Since she’s working with the same production house on another project, they too are trying to make it possible for her to be part of the franchise.”
Meanwhile, a second option is being kept ready if the date issue isn’t resolved. A new face is being trained for the stunts and other areas of acting if Kats’ date jeopardy isn’t resolved.

You might not see actress Katrina Kaif issuing any clarification again. The actress says that there’s no point in correcting gossip that sometimes circulate around.
“What the point in coming out with a clarification. In that case, I am already fanning an existing rumour. The best way to deal with it according to me is to just let it pass,” says Katrina.
Referring to the alleged ongoing cold-war between her and actress Sonakshi Sinha, and further rumours about her not replying to Sonakshi’s apparent text messages, she adds, “What I did is not the point of contention here. The point is what I didn’t want to do. I didn’t want to show the world that it is something that bothers me. In any case, most of the times I don’t get to read or watch TV. I only get to know about such rumours when somebody tells me that he/she has read something about me. Most of the times, I tell the person not to bother about them,” she adds.
Katrina says that it is the main reason why she didn’t hop onto the Twitter bandwagon like her other Bollywood colleagues.
“We anyways talk so much about what we are doing and eating. I don’t think the audience needs to know more of us. It might be an overdose! Since I don’t want to clarify most of the things going around, coming on Twitter at that point of time doesn’t make any sense,” she says.
“I’m far too much of a private person to share everything about my life with the whole world. I’m not against who do, but it’s not something I choose,” she adds.
But the leggy beauty doesn’t want to say never.
“You can never say never. I am very active online, so you never know when I will change my mind. I recently judged an online dance show for the airline I endorse so through that process I came to know about the enormous power that internet has,” she says.
His absence at the music release of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has fuelled speculations of a rift with co-stars Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif. Ali Zafar laughs off the rumours, “I couldn’t be in Mumbai because I’m shooting a film here that’s partly set in London. But I will be in India on August 26 and

have a ‘live’ promotional concert scheduled for the next day with my co-stars. The plan is for Katrina, Imran and me to do a series of promotional concerts across the country.”
Ali, who has been missing from the promos so far will break in with a song, Madhubala… that goes on air today and has him tossing off glasses of bhaang and doing a rock Bhangra with ‘bro’ Imran and dulhan Katrina: “It’s a fun track that we shot over four days in Mumbai in sweltering June. Since I don’t drink, I didn’t touch the ‘bhaang’ but downed glasses of cold coffee. I lost four pounds in four days.”
The song is sung by Ali himself who remembers it being mailed to him by music director Sohail Sen in Australia when he was there for a film festival . “It had been recorded by another singer. I sang it in my scale, half asleep, and sent it back,” he recalls, adding that initially they were going with a slower track. “But, after pack-up, when Imran, Katrina and I would sit together with Ali (director Ali Abbas Zafar) to discuss the film, both Katrina and I thought that we needed to go wilder on this song. So then, Ali opted for the fast-paced ‘Madhubala….’”
Ali admits to being a huge Dilip Kumar and Madhubala fan. You see a poster of their epic, Mughal-e-Azam in the song. “Madhubala was an iconic beauty who breathed romance on screen,” he eulogises. Is Katrina like her? “No way!” he exclaims. “She has her beauty and style!”
Ali would take his guitar on the sets and play and write songs between shots. Katrina confided that she too wanted to learn how to strum the guitar. “I taught her a few chords. She was a diligent student during the shoot but I don’t think she’s practiced much after that,” he says.
But the lessons came in handy when Katrina was filming her rock number. “I was the one who urged her to go in for a more grunge look as opposed to her usual squeaky clean appearance… Dark under eye make-up, leather and boots. It’s gone down well,” muses Ali.
There’s also talk that Ali wants to shoot the video of a song from his album Jhoom in the near future.in February. And wants to shoot some new music videos for it and is auditioning with that in mind. How about getting Katrina on board? Says Ali, “She’s promised to appear in my video if our film does the business I’ve predicted. It’s an achievable estimate and I was bang on with Tees Maar Khan earlier!”
Katrina Kaif is riding the highest wave of her career in Bollywood right now. With 3 big banner films in her kitty, the actor is making some heads turn on southern shores as well. Now, Kaif has been offered the popular item number from the Salman Khan hit Dabangg in the Tamil remake of
the film.
“There are reports that Katrina has agreed to do the item number and if everything falls into place, then the song will be shot sometime next month,” a source revealed to Mail Today.
There are no confirmations from Katrina’s camp, while she recently went on record to rubbish reports about an item number with Sanjay Dutt in Karan Johar’s remake of Agneepath.
The Tamil version of Dabangg, to be directed by Dharani, will be titled Osthi. The lead roles will be played by Simbu and Richa Gangopadhyay.
The film that hit the floors in May is scheduled for an Eid release, sometime in the end of August.
Some tabloid reports said that the item number was first offered to south siren Nayanthara. But she couldn’t commit as she was busy with her impending wedding to Prabhu Deva.
Director Dharani, who wanted to make the item number the highlight of the film, decided to import some Bollywood beauty to add that chutzpah.
Wait and watch this space to see whether Sheila travels to south India to transform in to Munni…
Katrina Kaif readily agreed to shake a leg for Bodyguard’s title number, and didn’t even ask for a fee. Not surprisingly, her ‘friend’ Salman Khan also refers to her as part of his family. With this item number, the rumoured ex couple are back on screen together after Yuvvraj (2008), and rumours
A few days back, a tabloid quoted Katrina as saying thus: ‘I can’t deny my equation with him (Salman) has changed.’ But Salman isn’t amused. “What equation? I really don’t know what she said. As far as I am concerned, our equation is absolutely the same as earlier,” says the Dabangg (2010) star.
But doesn’t Salman feel such reports stem from the fact that they were in a relationship earlier? “Did I say so? Or did she say so?” he questions. “We’ve always maintained that we’re good friends and get along absolutely fine.”
And even as they shoot for Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger, Kat has stated that she’s comfortable working with him. “Yes, she is very comfortable with me and my entire family. In fact, she is a part of the family. We have known her for the longest time now,” says Salman, adding further in jest, “Like in the movie, I play Kareena’s character’s bodyguard, like that I am Katrina’s bodyguard.”
Speaking of Bodyguard, Salman claims he was always aware of its potential. In fact, when the film was being made in Malayalam, he heard the script and thought of picking it up. “I haven’t seen the Malayalam version. Atul (Agnihotri) watched it, but even before he saw it, I had told him, ‘It has an amazing plot. Pick it up. Picture hit ho, flop ho (whether the film is a hit or flop), get the story,’” he says.
Considering Salman has done high-flying action in all his films, including Wanted (2009), Dabangg and Ready, is it all physically demanding for him? “The most difficult one in terms of physical strain has been Veer (2010). But so far, I am capable of doing them (stunts) physically and am getting away with it,” he says, adding, “And I say it because I’ve done all the stunts myself in my movies. So I have been extremely lucky to do all the stunts safely and without any injury.”
Excerpts from interview:
After Wanted (2009) and Dabangg (2010), will Bodyguard be your third consecutive Eid blockbuster?
Let the Friday, the film releases decide that. Everyone wants to make a film that will surpass their last films. I’m no different. And today, we have the technical know-how to up the standards but we still haven’t discovered a hit formula. So, all you can do is make a good, sensible, emotional film and leave it at that.
But the expectations from ‘Brand Salman’ have risen?
Expectations are high because people have watched my last few films. But it’s true in other cases too. For example, you always expect a little more from your girlfriend and vice versa (smiles).
Your last two films with Kareena Kapoor, Kyun Ki! (2005) and Main Aur Mrs Khanna (2009) didn’t work. Will this one break the jinx?
In our film industry, certain people dismiss an on-screen pairing as panvati (jinxed) if their last few films haven’t worked at the Box Office. But I believe that if a heroine is perfectly suited for a particular role, why shouldn’t I get her? In Wanted, we cast Ayesha Takia in the lead because she fit the part. And the film was a superhit!
Is Katrina Kaif doing a cameo in Bodyguard or a special appearance in the title track?
I start out as her bodyguard so she appears in the title song, Aaya Re Aaya… to establish the fact. Later, of course, I become Kareena’s bodyguard.
Is Bodyguard a special film for you since your sister Alvira is co-producing it with husband Atul Agnihotri?
It doesn’t matter who is producing the film. A film is a film. People are going to spend money, from Rs 10 to Rs 400, to watch it. So, my responsibility is towards them. Once audiences like the film and they start coming in numbers, my responsibility towards the producer will be automatically fulfilled.
How is Dabangg 2 shaping up? Have you really written parts of the script?
Dabangg 2 is simply an extension of the first film. Chulbul Pandey is an interesting guy so I think we won’t have any problems with the character. In fact, we have finalised and locked the script of the sequel. I haven’t written anything in the script since it’s completely Arbaaz’s (Khan) film. Since Chulbul has shades of gray, it’s easily to meander into different genres — comedy, action and romance. Now that the character of Chulbul is established, we can easily take it to the next level.
We’ve heard that Chulbul is moving to a metro now?
Yes, Chulbul is moving to a bigger city. (Smiles) Now, there’s a lot more jhol in Dabangg 2.
Many feel you seem to be stuck on action films these days?
Nothing like that, every film has action, even Ready. For instance, you can’t call every film a musical just because it has 4-5 songs. In fact, I had to work harder on Ready because the action scenes had to make you laugh.
Have you lost weight for Ek Tha Tiger?
No, it’s just that I was training hard for the climax of Bodyguard and carried the lean look into Ek Tha Tiger. It has been just 25 days since I wrapped up Bodyguard.
You met Somy Ali recently in Bangkok while shooting for Ready?
Sure, I did. She flew down to Bangkok from Hong Kong because she had some work in Hon Kong. What’s the big deal?
Somy has said that Aishwarya Rai was responsible for your split?
(Smiles) Somy said it, so ask her. I don’t know anything.
Actress Katrina Kaif has had an eventful journey in Bollywood and she credits all success to people who have stood by her throughout. While people have gone and come, a few of them have stood by her through her good and bad times.
Talking about it she says, “There have been different people at different times in life. My family has always been by my side, my management guys who have worked with me. You do make friends but sometimes that changes as well. Some people come into your lives and then they go away.”
As an actress she has improved and grown, but she finds it difficult to rate herself as an actress.
“I would never be able to rate myself. My job is to entertain, do a good job and get better with each film. It is the audiences decision to judge how good I am.”
While it is a life, most people dream of living, Katrina admits that it does get lonely at times, especially because of the hectic lives that actors lead.
“It gets very difficult at times. Doing a film takes up so much of your time because when you do a film you are absolutely into it. For three months that unit becomes your family and then once the film wraps up, that world ends. You are constantly on the move and that can get lonely at times but you have to understand that is how it functions and look forward.”
While talking about friends, much has been written about her apparent equation with actor Deepika Padukone. Without even battling an eyelid, she says, “Too much has been written about me and my apparent equation with Deepika and everyone. Basically anyone and everyone is written about. Whenever I interact with any of them, I am cordial and things are fine.”
While we are at it, we ask her if it is possible for two actors to be friends and she says, “That depends on every individual. You may be able to make friends with people you are working with or you may not. I guess the issue is time because we are constantly on the move. But that really is subjective.”
